| "True Biblical Counseling" First of all, TRUE Christian Counseling accepts the BIBLE as the Final Standard of Authority. Therefore, Christians do not have to explore and dissect philosophies and their own logic to try to find a correct system of right or wrong. Christians should rely on the word of God to direct behavior. If your conscious agrees with the word of God, it is correct. If it does not, it is wrong. The Bible gives insights into human behavior and puts everything into its proper perspective. It tells who man is, where man came from, the purpose of man, and the nature of man. The BIBLE is the only foundation that gives us the proper framework in which we can solve our problems. Many Christians in the world today have come to believe that the very title, "Christian" before the word counselor or psychologist, indicates the coupling of the Bible with the observations of psychiatry and scientific facts. Therefore, it must be the "right way to go" for the sincere Christian who wants to receive help from a Biblical prospective, or God's way. It sounds good, but is this in fact true? CAN PSYCHOLOGY AND CHRISTIANITY REALLY BE INTEGRATED? It is interesting to note that for nearly half a century, the very thought of Christian psychology was opposed by the entire Christian Church. But today, Christian psychology is the new evangelical orthodoxy. No one in 1,900 years of church history ever imagined that "self-love and self-esteem" were taught in the Bible. However, the secular humanists invented selfism and many Christian psychologists have "bought it and brought it" into the church. Under this influence, many of us Christians have begun to see our need for the "love and esteem of self" ... in spite of Christ's command to deny self. The vital issues for which the martyrs gave their very lives for, are sadly being ignored today. It is time we Christians carried the battle for a return back to BIBLICAL TRUTH! We do need counseling in the church. It is in fact, one of the church's greatest needs today. But it must be BIBLICAL, not psychological. We urgently need to ask God what He would have us to do, and then follow His leading. |
