What Does It Mean
To Be Born Again?
Our New Birth is Spiritual, Holy,
and Heavenly. It is being made alive
again in a spiritual sense. When you
accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and
Saviour, you will experience a rebirth,
hence the phrase, Born Again.
After we are born again, we begin to
see, hear, and seek after divine things.
Christ is now formed in our hearts. We
begin to live a life of faith & holiness.
We have been made new creatures,
and are now partakers of the
Divine Nature.
God is the only source of this, not
works of man, but by Gods own good
will and pleasure. It is only because
of His Great Love, His Free Gift, His
Rich Grace and His Abundant Mercy.
Regeneration is a result of salvation,
along with sealing, adoption and
reconciliation. Ephesians 1:14,
Galatians 4:5, 2 Corinthians 5:18-20
So being saved, or born again, begins
the regeneration process. Regeneration
is God making us spiritually alive. We
are being made a new creation because
of our faith in Jesus Christ. John 1:13,
John 3:6-7, 1 John 3:9 & 4:7, 1 John
5:1,4,18, Ephesians 2:1, 1 Peter 1:23
This is necessary because before we
were saved, we were not of God.
We were children of wrath. Before
our salvation, we were degenerate.
Ephesians 2:3, John 1:12-13,
Romans 5:18-20
But after salvation, we are regenerated.
We are born again and this regeneration
brings us peace with God, new life, and
eternal sonship. Romans 5:1, Titus 3:5,
2 Corinthians 5:17, John 1:12-13,
Galatians 3:26.
This regeneration is eternal and begins
the process of sanctification where we
become the people God intended
for us to be. Romans 8:28-30.
The Bible is clear that the only means of
regeneration is by faith in the finished
work of Jesus Christ on the cross.
Jeremiah 7:9 says that no amount of
good works or keeping of the law can
regenerate the heart which from birth is
deceitful and wicked above all things.
If you are a Christian, you have
experienced this new birth. You have
been born again! You have received
the only cure for the total depravity
of the human heart.
Other religions believe there are works
and deeds that one must do in order to
gain favor with God. But in Romans
3:20, He tells us that by works of the
law no human being will be justified
in His sight. Total regeneration of the
heart is necessary for our salvation.
Paul explains this concept perfectly in
Galatians 2:20 when he says, I have
been crucified with Christ. It is no
longer I who live, but Christ who lives
in me. And the life I now live in the
flesh I live by faith in the Son of God,
who loved me and gave himself for me.
This is true regeneration. And this
is what it means to be Born Again!
