| "Godly Example" . A young father was having a talk with his young son as they were preparing to get ready for bed. The father was telling his son what Christians should be like and how they should act. When the Dad had finished describing the attributes of a Christian, the young boy asked the most stunning question: Daddy, have I ever seen a Christian before?" The father was horrified! He thought, "What kind of an example am I?" How would you feel if your child asked you the same question? God has given us instruction in His word, to make sure this doesn't happen. This passages below establish some patterns for parenting. These patterns are given to us so that we can help our children know the things of God and to realize that we are God's children. We do this by telling the next generation the praises of the Lord, and teaching our children the statutes and laws of God. Then our children will see by our words and examples that we are Christians. Psalm 78:4-5 "These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up." Deuteronomy 6:6-7 As a parent, we are to be a reflector of God to our children. As they look into our faces, our lives, they are to see a man or woman of godly desires and actions. As Christian parents, we should always stand up and do the right thing. Christian growth is a daily process where we take off the old self of attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors, (our sin) and change to the characteristics that reflect the presence of Christ in our lives. The only way we can grow and succeed in this continuous process is by being renewed in the spirit of our mind. Ephesians 4:22-24 It is a moment to moment decision. It is by word and by personal example that we train and nurture our children. This is how they will know what a Christian is, because they have known you... the reflector of God's Grace. |
